Copilot Can Now Run Tasks Without You Babysitting It

Microsoft just gave Copilot the green light to handle multi-step jobs on its own inside Outlook, Teams, and Word. I’m curious to see how this plays out once it’s running in Teams all day.

What Actually Changed in the Spring Release

The update hits business plans between May 19 and 20 as part of the spring 2026 wave. Copilot can now start a task, pull information from different places, and finish the steps without you clicking through every single one.

Honestly, the stuff that came before never impressed me, and this might be why. Those earlier versions mostly just suggested text or summarized meetings. This time the agent actions let it actually do the work.

• Open your Microsoft 365 admin center and confirm which business plan you’re on so you know if the agent features are included.
• Pick one recurring task in Outlook or Word that takes more than ten minutes and test whether Copilot can run it end-to-end.
• Watch one short Teams meeting recording with Copilot turned on and note what it pulls out automatically versus what still needs your review.
• Decide with your team which single process you’ll let the agent handle first instead of trying to turn it on everywhere at once.
