Anthropic Testing Claude Money for Bank Account Analysis

Anthropic Is Testing an AI That Reads Your Bank Account. Here Is What to Think About That.

Claude has been quietly doing great AI work for a while now. Back when ChatGPT was making all the headlines, Anthropic was out there building something just as good, in many ways better, and nobody was really talking about it. I used Claude quite a bit before it became a big deal. It wrote better text than GPT did. And then they created agents, made coding with AI easy, got the AI interacting with your desktop, reading your files, building memory across projects. That changed everything. Now they’re one of the biggest competitive players in the space.

So when Anthropic does something new, I pay attention. And what they’re testing now is called Claude Money.

What Claude Money Actually Does

Claude Money connects Claude’s AI assistant directly to your business bank accounts. It analyzes your spending patterns, your cash flow, and your overall financial picture. That’s the idea. You give it access, and it starts making sense of what’s happening with your money in ways that a quick glance at your statement might not.

For a lot of my clients, that could actually be useful. If your business is big enough that you’re not personally watching every transaction, an AI that flags something unusual or gives you a real picture of where cash is going could be a genuine help. In my own business, I look at the bank account every day and I just know what’s going on. But I get it. Not everyone runs it that way.

I’ll be honest, I’d love this more for my personal banking than my business banking. I rarely look at my personal accounts closely. Knowing where that money goes? That would be great.

Is It Safe to Connect AI to Your Bank?

That’s the obvious question. My take is yes, and here’s why. The AI isn’t going to get in there and move money around. You’re giving it very limited, read-only type capabilities within your bank. It can look, it can analyze, it can report. It can’t transact. I don’t have a big problem with that.

What I do have a concern about is this: if you’re using a regular consumer AI account, the kind where you just pay a monthly fee, or especially if you’re using a free AI plan, that AI may be training itself on your financial data. Your bank transactions, your spending patterns, your cash flow. And if the AI already knows what your business does and how it operates, you could be training your competitors on how your financial operation is put together. That’s a real thing to think about.

One Setting You Need to Check Right Now

Go into your AI settings and turn off the options that allow it to train on your data. Every major AI platform has this somewhere. I’m not going to walk through every step because honestly, you can just ask the AI itself and it will walk you right through it. But do it. It matters, especially before you start connecting anything financial.

As for getting access to Claude Money, there’s a wait list. Head to Anthropic’s website and look for it there. It’s a pilot right now, so it’s not wide open yet.

I’ve already connected Claude to both my personal and business email and it’s been fantastic. Being able to ask it to find an email, pull context on a project I’m working on, or send something on my behalf, that’s changed how I work. If Claude Money is even half as useful for the financial side, it’s worth keeping an eye on.
