Army Reopens $50B MAPS Contract to Small Business Teams Only

The Army Just Set Aside $50 Billion for Small Business Teams. Are You In?

This one is for my manufacturers. The Army has reopened a $50 billion contract opportunity, and it is exclusively for small business teams. Companies with 100 employees or less. That means you.

As far as I know, small business set-asides have always been a thing in federal contracting. But this one is worth paying attention to, and I want to make sure my manufacturing friends in Michigan and Florida are aware of it and actually do something with it.

This Is Not a Solo Competition

What I found interesting about this one is the teaming angle. This is not just one company winning a big contract and going it alone. Small businesses are meant to collaborate here, package up work together, and go after it as a team. So if you have always assumed federal contracting was somebody else’s game, that changes things a little. It is no longer a competitive situation between you and the shop down the road. It is a team USA situation.

Talk to other manufacturers in your network. If you know companies that complement what you do, this is worth a conversation.

My Family Has Been in This World

My family has a long history of working with the Department of Defense, making sure small businesses built the right things to the right specifications for Uncle Sam. So this is not abstract to me. I know this world exists, I know small businesses can do real work in it, and I know it is worth a serious look if you are a manufacturer.

Where to Start

You do not have to figure this out alone, and you do not have to pay someone to help you get started. There are free resources built exactly for this:

  • Contact your local PTAC (Procurement Technical Assistance Center). They provide free help to small businesses trying to get into government contracting.
  • Look up your local Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Same idea, free assistance.
  • Try America.gov to find the right agency or office faster.

If you have questions and want to talk through it, reach out to me. I will share what I know and point you in the right direction.
